The Best Female Looks from the Oscars 2023 Red Carpet

On 13th March the 95th annual Oscars kicked off at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, and as you’d expect from the most-watched red carpet events in the world, the Hollywood A-listers came for the glamour, but some were riskier than others.

Despite The Academy Awards celebrating the best of film and actors, the event is just as much a show-stopping glamour runway of eveningwear as it is about the awards. A lot of pressure for the nominees, but this award season has already seen most of them deliver on the fashion front. Cate Blanchett, nominated for Best Actress for her role in Tár, known for being the Queen of Re-Wearing her red-carpet dresses, shone at the awards with a custom Louis Vuitton dress from a never-seen-before archival collection and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. Classic and timeless, just like Blanchett herself.

A look that turned many heads, came from Fan Bingbing with her Tony Ward Couture hand-embroidered dress and an exaggerated taffeta emerald green overskirt with sumptuous sleeves. The Chinese superstar, who starred in The 355 alongside Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o, and Jessica Chastain, channelled Old Hollywood glam and certainly took home the award for the best dressed attendee of the night. Her arrival to this year’s red carpet makes it her first time at the Oscars, but she’s no stranger to other events, like the Cannes Film Festival.

Some A-listers were more daring than others, with Cara Delavigne gracing the red carpet with an eye-catching red Elie Saab Couture gown that features a very prominent and thigh-high slit, which certainly showed off her long model legs. The scarlet number boasted a one shoulder style with a full skirt and ruffles decoration on one arm. The perfect asymmetry featured all the ingredients of a winning look and made for a breath-taking moment.

However, the most talked about on social media dress choice at the awards is certainly Florance Pugh who took the carpet by storm wearing a Valentino Haute Couture and Tiffany & Co jewellery accessories. The taffeta dress was completed with a flowing train and ruffled sleeves, along with a pair of black thigh-skimming stretch-caddy shorts (with pockets!), and platform heels. Known for her bold fashion choices, it wasn’t a surprise that Pugh would show her punk side at the red carpet, and she sure made an impression on social media with many comparing her dress to ‘bed sheets’ sparking some amusing memes and videos.

One TikTok influencer and artist @angelicahacks, known for her amusing recreations of expensive celebrity looks on the red carpets and award shows, took it upon herself to re-create the Pugh’s dress with just bedsheets, tinfoil, black tights, and cans of pringles, gaining her thousands of followers. The resemblance is comically uncanny.
